IFE Conference 2025 is being held at Tec de Monterrey’s Monterrey campus from January 28 to 30.
IFE Conference 2025 offers three days of sharing experiences in educational innovation through keynote speeches, panels, special events, awards, networking, and more.
Formerly called the International Conference on Educational Innovation (CIIE), the IFE Conference is an event organized by Tec de Monterrey to learn about the latest trends and practices in education.
The 2025 edition is entitled “Driving the Future of Education with Innovation and Technology,” which seeks to address the challenges presented by emerging technologies in education.
This edition seeks to reflect on how educational institutions can adjust to changes, incorporating technology in an effective and ethical manner to train skilled and committed professionals.
IFE stands for Institute for the Future of Education, a Tec platform that seeks to improve higher education and lifelong learning through educational innovation.
The 2025 edition kicks off
IFE Conference 2025 kicked off at Tec de Monterrey with guests from Peru, Chile, Argentina, the United States, Spain, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico.
The Borregos Arena on Monterrey campus provided the stage for Rector of the Tec Juan Pablo Murra to welcome the attendees.
“The Tec is an institution from society for society. Initially, this was an event designed for Tec professors, but we saw that it was of value to society, and we opened it up.
“We’ve arrived at an event that we believe is of value and that the content generated here changes institutions, changes people, and changes communities,” he said.
In the face of global challenges, technology, capacity building, and knowledge will make it possible to solve these challenges, said Murra.
“Through collaborative work, we’ll ensure a better, more prosperous, fairer, and more sustainable future,” he added.
Finally, Murra talked about how the institution is using technology and the challenges involved, especially in artificial intelligence (AI), such as:
- Transforming the teaching-learning process with artificial intelligence.
- What students are taught and how the Tec transforms its courses to ensure that new professionals know how to use artificial intelligence in their professions.
- Seeing how we are advancing in artificial intelligence research.
- Guidelines and the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

Michael Fung, Executive Director of IFE at Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Paulo Blikstein, Director of IFE’s Research Lab, reflected on the promise of AI in education and its real potential.
According to Fung, the excitement around the use of AI in education can be divided into four main areas:
- Its potential to surpass human intelligence.
- The possibility that this is an imminent replacement for teachers.
- The idea that this type of technology is capable of solving any problem.
- AI capabilities to bridge information gaps.
“It speaks to how generative AI is leveling the playing field, eliminating long-standing gaps in access, and democratizing knowledge and resources across multiple sectors,” the IFE Executive Director said.
Although the speakers acknowledge that there are exaggerated expectations about what technology can do, they emphasized that, although there is a long way to go, there are realistic uses that are transforming and innovating upon the current paradigm.
Educational technology, Blikstein explained, benefits from being leveraged by audiences interested in learning, facilitating, and training teachers in its use, and promoting live interactions and feedback to increase engagement.
“We have to prioritize human beings in this feedback loop (...) so that the risk of many of these tools decreases by having someone check what is going on, what is being done, and taking care of safety,” he pointed out.

- The RIE 360 Award for Educational Innovation
An initiative of the Educational Innovation Network 360 (RIE 360) that seeks to identify and promote innovative actions in education that have a positive impact on the learning and development of student competencies.
It is aimed at teachers from high schools and higher education institutions in Mexico. The three finalist experiences will be presented during this event, and the winning experience will be announced.
- The TecPrize Final
The highlight event of this open innovation initiative from the Institute for the Future of Education. During the final, each team has the opportunity to present its proposal to a jury composed of experts in education, technology, and entrepreneurship.
After the presentations, the three winning projects will be announced and will receive monetary prizes of US$30,000, US$20,000, and US$10,000 for first, second, and third place, respectively.
- Novus Award
Recognition ceremony for the most outstanding educational innovation projects of the 2025 Novus Generation, Tecnológico de Monterrey.
- Networking spaces
During the three days, participants have the opportunity to make connections during roundtable discussions, workshops, breaks, and a Cultural Networking Cocktail Party organized in the Luis Elizondo auditorium on the second day.

El IFE Conference 2025
The IFE Conference is one of the most important events in educational innovation in the Spanish-speaking world.
This is the eleventh edition of this event, formerly known as the International Conference on Educational Innovation (CIIE).
“IFE Conference 2025 focuses on the complex challenges facing the education sector as it embraces innovative pedagogies and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence,” said Michael Fung, who is also President of the IFE Conference.
This year, more than 250 activities have been created to learn about challenges, opportunities, and trends that are transforming education around the world.
“Educational leaders must overcome these challenges to transform their educational models and practices to address the changing needs of their economies and societies in these rapidly changing times,” he added.
